Bully Proofing Children. 5 Steps to Handle a Bully Like a Bodyguard
Bully Proofing Your Child May Be Easier Than You Think. A new program based bodyguard tactics helps Bully Proof Kids with 5 Steps To Handle a Bully. The program calls into question many of the popular school wide so called anti-bully programs and offers a different take on how to handle a bully.
Many Bully Programs instituted by schools have continued to fail. Despite the resources, money, time, rules and laws they throw at the problem the results remain relatively the same. New research is showing that these school wide anti-bullying programs are having little to no effect on bullying and children are suffering. Check out our FACEBOOK page if you want to reference the findings.
It is apparent to me that the reason these school wide anti-bully programs are failing is the same reason that DARE, GREAT, Stranger Danger and those other similar movements have failed. Over a billion dollars wasted on such schemes. Are we to fall for it again because of scare tactics, political motivations and lack of common sense?
“You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.” – Abraham Lincoln
Just one of the great quotes on Izzy Kalman’s Bullies 2 Buddies site (One of the few programs we endorse and advocate).
I believe these types of programs fail because they are externally motivated and operate on a flawed premise… that you can change external forces and change internal motivations. The reason our bullying program has been so successful over the past 26 years is that it works on the individual from the inside out. It starts with being honest about who we are and how the world works around us. It isn’t laws, rules, posters that change a heart, it’s love, compassion, kindness, connection, community and accountability. Successful parents, teachers and counselors will tell you the same thing. The martial arts community has worked together for decades with school counselors, therapists, parents, teachers and students and had great success in bullying prevention and treatment.
“The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding.” – Albert Camus
The good news is that there is hope. A good martial arts school will equip a child to handle bullying peacefully with tact, grace and dignity. They will take an integrative approach to working with parents, teachers and counselors to advocate for the child and help them develop the necessary skills to face life’s challenges, even the bullying kind. Any good bullying program will acknowledge that true bully prevention and safety is a self defense issue. Anyone who cares about your child would never mislead you into thinking that wishful thinking, reporting and avoidance is adequate bully solution strategy. Denial is not an effective self defense strategy nor method for handling a determined bully.
